Demi Sirdar Honshu cradled his ruined left arm....tears of shame stinging his eyes.
He had been ordered back to camp in disgrace and had had his hand shot off by High Sirdar Marduk for failing in his duty.
Honshu could not live with the shame and there and then he came to the most momentous decision of his life....he had been denied Blood Vengeance by Marduk....the shame of not being able to avenge his lost bretheren..
NO! He would not return to his Urgashi brothers in disgrace. He would prove to Marduk that he was still worthy of his rank...he would rejoin the attack on the Grigorian heretics and prove his loyalty to both Marduk and the Holy Blood Emperor!
Redemption in battle...it was the Urgashi way.

Honshu swallowed a handful of pain killers and stimulants as he made hs way back through the woods at a blistering pace and after awhile he could hear the sounds of battle up ahead.
He prayed to the Blood Emperor that he was not too late to take part....to redeem himself and avenge his men
With his powerful legs pumping and his lungs fit to burst, Honshu crested a hill and came upon the scene of the battle
His heart swelled with pride as he heard the battle songs of the Urgashi....he even saw Marduk flying headlong into the fray....his dreadlocks swinging left and right as his powersword cut a bloody swathe through the defending Grigorians.
Honshu felt the blood lust rise and quickly drew his las-pistol....he was about to charge into battle when he saw with horror and disbelief what was happening. His Urgashi brothers....the vaunted 'Death Company' were pushing forward with great success, but what they couldn't see was that they were slowly being lead on and encircled by the heretics!
The only way to help his bretheren was to somehow reach Marduk and tell him of the danger before it was too late!
What Honshu saw then chilled him to the bone....he simply couldn't believe what he was seeing...
High Sirdar Marduk, victor of a hundred battles, suddenly dissappeared in a cloud of smoke and ash....an explosion....a big one. He then saw Marduk fly backwards and land hard on the ground...Marduk tried to get up but...but....his legs were smashed to bloody ribbons...blown to the four winds.
He saw Marduk try and reach for his powersword but it was too late.....the heretics were swarming all over him...he was caught like an Ursine in a pit.
Honshu saw a tall man reach down with something...a warknife!
Honshu watched with horror as Marduk was beheaded and his dreadlocked head thrown down to the advancing Urgashi.
The advance faltered....the 'Death Company' had lost its leader....its talisman...they looked around in confusion....and then the trap was sprung.
The Urgashi were suddenly hemmed in from all sides by screaming well armed heretics....bastard bastard heretics! Honshu could do nothing but impotently watch as his brothers were killed in droves.
But still the 'Death Company' fought on....living up to its vaunted name. They were singing the sacred battle hymns even as they died...and die they did.
Gathered around the wolf banner of Blackharbor they made their last stand....brave, resolute but ultimately doomed...there was nowhere to go....nowhere to advance or retreat to...so they stood...and they died.
Honshu saw the battle standard slowly slip from the last man to die...shot through the head while screaming bloody defiance at the thrice damned heretics.
Honsho felt his head drop...Marduk beheaded....the battle lost....most,if not all, of his bretheren dead.
He was in a state of shock but this very thing gave him focus...his blood lust forgotten he realised that he was, probably, the last man...the last witness to this abbatoir.
No one would know of his shame...he could even say that Marduk had sent him on a last missive or call for re-enforcements....he could even show them his maimed and bloodied stump to show how he had valiantly fought through the heretics to get back....he could say anything...anything was better than disgrace.

It was late evening when Demi Sirdar Honshu staggered back into the heavily fortified Urgashi camp
He told them of the terrible battle and defeat at the hands of the bastard Grigorians and their Seeker allies....he regaled them with his desperate dash through the heretic lines to get Marduks last orders through....he showed them his bloodied stump when the heretics had maimed him....
He told them of High Sirdar Marduk, beset by enemies, sending him back although, of course, he didn't want to leave the battle BUT he was Urgashi....Urgashi followed orders...it was the Urgashi way.
Honshu inwardly nodded in satisfaction as his brothers saw him as a tragic but nervertheless heroic figure...all was going to plan.
He told them that Marduks last order was to push on to greater glory for the Holy Blood Emperor and to leave the Grigorians till later.
Sirdar Lashek, Marduks second in command, thought this very strange but it was Marduks last order and would be followed to the letter.
Of course Honshu had his reasons for telling Lashek this....who knows...there might be survivors out there who could tell a different tale and he couldn't have that.
He made a silent prayer that if there were survivors that they would die well and not of exposure or hunger looking for their fellow Urgashi...who would, of course, be long gone by then....

The next morning they broke camp.
Sirdar Lashek, now in command, gave the orders to pull out through hacking fits of coughing....little did he know that Honshu had poisoned his meal the night before with a particularly slow and virulent concoction and that he would be dead within days.
Then he, Demi Sirdar Honshu would be in full command of the Death Brigade.
Killing ones superiors was a sometimes used method of advancement....for those in command it kept you alert and sharp.
Lashek had let his guard slip...understandable seeing as the mighty Marduk was no more...understandable but quite deadly.

Yes....soon he...Honshu would be High Sirdar and he vowed to the spirits of his bretheren and the Holy Blood Emperor that someday soon he would return. He would return and extract Blood Vengeance on the bastard Grigorians and their deadly allies.
Every man, woman and child would be killed as slowly as possible so that their screams would reach the very ears of the Blood Emperor himself!
It was the Urgashi way after all
